Tena Tena Camp is considered by many to be the best game viewing terrain in the South Luangwa Valley. This makes Tena Tena and Nsefu Camps very popular and great game experiences. Robin Pope runs a low key but impressive operation in the valley. Fly camping is available from Tena Tena for those who need to get even more remote. Perfect location for those seeking the walking safaris South Luangwa is famous for.
Tena Tena Camp, a small and remote camp, lies within the South Luangwa National Park, curling along a sweeping bend of the Luangwa River's banks. A grove of ancient mahogany trees shade the spacious custom-made tents on the double-tier river banks. Each one features en-suite bathrooms, private seating areas and peaceful views. There are only 8-10 guests, so there are no crowds and each guest experiences excellent service and tranquility.
From the thatched dining room and bar, guests can watch the elephants and antelopes on the banks, while bellowing hippos hover along the water's surface. The common lounge area is open-air with plenty of comfy cushions and wooden furniture creating a relaxing place to enjoy the sights and sounds of Africa.
Nearby there is a spectacular lagoon, Buca Buca, where a whole morning can be spent quietly sitting while the game comes down to feed and drink. With the camp being remote and small, you have these scenes to yourselves. Activities include walking safaris, game drives, and night game drives - all led by expert guides who have a great knowledge of the area's wildlife. Among the creatures that can be spotted are elephants, buffalo, leopard, lions, giraffes, hippos and over 450 species of birds, making this an excellent place to visit if your focus is on bird-watching.
