Kaingo might have the best game viewing location is the whole of this incredible game rich National Park with two huge prides of lions, hippos at dinner and lots of leopards. Guests can choose to go on walking safaris, game drives, as well as spend time in the various game hides set up each year by Derek Shenton to maximize the photographic experience.
Overlooking the Luangwa River deep within the prime area of the South Luangwa National Park is Kaingo Camp. There is a wonderful diversity of wildlife in the area including hippos, elephants, leopards, lions and myriad bird species. The river attracts many creatures from the arid environment, and Kaingo Camp offers guests many prime wildlife viewing opportunities.
Kaingo's chalets were designed with the sole purpose of transporting you safely into the world of the Luangwa without a single distraction. The large centrally located open-sided sitting room includes a dining area, library and Kaingos renowned thousand year old lead-wood bar. A special feature of Kaingo is the unique deck built out over the river. From this relaxing vantage point just below the central dining area one can view game coming down to drink, basking hippos, aquatic birds, crocodiles fishing, and daily elephant crossings. Game-drives and walks from Kaingo provide exciting photographic opportunities for its guests.
The varied terrain around camp includes the picturesque Fish Eagle lagoon, one of the largest ebony forests in the Park, and the spectacular Lion Plain bordered by the meandering Luangwa and Mwamba Rivers. The area is ideal walking country. At Kaingo you will be offered 3 separate game-viewing activities a day which may include walking safaris, game drives or time spent at a hide or blind (normally during midday).
