Mango Opinion
Mfuwe Lodge has some great and some less than ideal qualities. The hippo filled lagoon behind the guest rooms has an awesome 'back patio' viewing experience. The lodge is located inside the entrance of the park gates so you do not have to wait at the bridge to enter each morning. It is a bit larger than our favorite bush camps located farther into the park.
Hidden away among the huge ebony and fig trees on the banks of one of these beautiful lagoons sits Mfuwe Lodge. Its eighteen air-conditioned chalets are arranged around the banks of two lagoons where an endless stream of wildlife will keep you enthralled as you lounge on the open deck or take a dip in the swimming pool.
This region of the park is known for it's prolific wildlife. South Luangwa is one of the greatest wildlife sanctuaries in the world. Game activity at the lagoon continues day and night as breeding herds in abundance come out of the bush to the water to quench their thirst. Hippos, buffalo, antelope, giraffe and crocodile are also frequent visitors to the Mfuwe Lodge lagoon.
Each chalet is decorated with superb attention to detail. Each sunken bath has its own private view of the lagoon. The open plan central lodge facility incorporates reception, lounge, dining and bar areas, under a thatch roof supported by palm poles and dominated by two impressive chimneys at opposite ends. From the comfort of the lodge, guests may view some of Africa's majestic wildlife as animals come down to drink. The main focus from the lodge are wildlife drives but walking and culutral visits to the local village can be arranged.
