Lusaka is the capital and by far largest city in Zambia with an estimated 1.7 million inhabitants. It is the business center and the center of government.

Most visitors just connect through on their way to the various safari destinations as there is not much of interest in the city culturally. There is one reason to overnight here in that one can meet the early morning flight home via Europe, therefore skipping a flight back through Johannesburg. With the current yellow fever regulations in place between South Africa and Zambia this can be a pretty attractive option for some.

The hotels here are run of the mill varieties with basic rooms, basic dining options and pretty basic service to match.
