Sabi Sands Game Reserve, South Africa
Gold price level
Mango Opinion
We expected Ulusaba to be fun and hip and it totally lived up to the hype. The split level rooms hang over the cliff. This makes for a great view but an interesting flight of stairs to the bathroom in the middle of the night, especially if you have been enjoying the complimentary champagne all evening.
The location of the property is on the edge of the reserve, so there is a fence dividing the Game Reserve boundary and a village in the distance. This can put a less than wild damper on game drives, but the guides strive to stay away from these areas.
Ulusaba Rock Lodge is perched high on a rocky outcrop where you will find spectacular panoramic views over miles of bush, the wildlife roaming within, the beauty of the lowveld (bushy grassland plain) below, all set against a backdrop of the Drakensberg Mountain range far in the distance. Sabi Sands GameReserve, set within Kruger National Park, is known for its incredible array of wildlife, especially the Big Five (rhinos, leopards, lions, buffalo and elephants).
Accommodation comprises of new Makwela Suites, Rock Cliff Rooms, and a stunning stand alone, split level Master Suite, which is sure to bring out the romantic in you. The Rock Suite which is comprised of two bedrooms, each with en-suite, is ideal for those wishing to bring little cubs of their own! All rooms and suites have air conditioning and fans.
Activities include twice daily game drives in open 4x4 game viewing safari vehicles, daily bush walks, stargazing, bird watching and moonlit bush dinners or sun downers. The excellent game viewing experience is complemented by the chance to go on a community tour of the local Shangaan Village where guests have the chance to interact with the local culture and people. Additional facilities also include a gymnasium, tennis courts and an arts and crafts curio shop. Cubs (kids) of all ages are welcome at Rock Lodge and will be invited to take part in Ulusaba Cubs Club.
