The Northern Cape province is the most sparsely populated province of South Africa. This region spans from the wine lands just north of Cape Town, along the Atlantic Ocean up to the Namibia and Botswana border. This location can be a perfect place to include in your visit to Africa, especially if you are looking for a beautiful nature reserve or place to unwind outside of the city.
The wine lands of Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek are located from 30-50 minutes drive outside of Cape Town. Here you'll find beautiful agricultural areas framed by mountains and lakes, with charming Cape Dutch towns. As you travel further north you'll find the Cederberg Wilderness Area - filled with orchards, mountains, rock formations and the Cape Floral Kingdom of South Africa. Further north has you at the Orange River and the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. This area is dominated by the granite plateau which includes Fish River Canyon and the Kalahari desert.
