Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda
Mango Opinion
What a stunning lodge right near the park headquarters. Super attentive staff with top notch service. It is one of the more expensive options in this area.
Singita Kwitonda Lodge strives to embody the gentle, regenerative spirit of Rwanda, and will provide a contemplative, nurturing space in which to appreciate the transformative, often spiritual, experience of coming face to face with the forest’s gentle giants. The name "Kwitonda" is a tribute to a great silverback gorilla whose legend lives on in Rwanda and was known for his humility and gentleness.
The lodge is located on a breathtaking, isolated but contained 178-acre piece of land right on the edge of Volcanoes National Park. Each of the eight luxurious suites features a private heated plunge pool, in- and outdoor fireplaces and large timber-framed windows that welcome the breathtaking scenery and views of the Sabyinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura volcanoes. Elements like woven ceilings and hand-fired terracotta brickwork crafted by local artisans highlight the authentic East African appeal of this remarkable lodge. The lodge is within easy driving distance of Park Headquarters, from where gorilla treks depart daily.
The main attraction of Kwitondo is its proximity to the Virungas and the Parc National des Volcans where clients trek on foot to see the magnificent Mountain Gorilla - perhaps one of the most dramatic, thrilling and poignant wildlife experiences possible. There are, however, a myriad of other excursions on offer.
