Amakoro Songa Lodge

Amakoro Songa Lodge gets its name from the black volcanic rocks that characterize this mountainous part of Rwanda that is home to the Mountain Gorillas. The lodge is set on a seven-acre plot with beautifully manicured lawns, surrounded by the Muhabura, Gahinga and Sabinyo mountain volcanoes. Its eight luxurious cottages are designed and built to take advantage of its serene surroundings which give every visitor a chance to escape everyday life and a sense of tranquility. All the cottages at Amakoro Songa Lodge are intentionally furnished with rustic elegance, fusing local and modern pieces that create a good warmth and comfort. The spacious rooms are warm and comfortable, each equipped with a fireplace.

The main attraction of Amakoro Songa lodge is its proximity to the Virungas and Volcanoes National Park where clients trek on foot to see the magnificent Mountain Gorilla - perhaps one of the most dramatic, thrilling and poignant wildlife experiences possible. There are, however, a myriad of other excursions on offer to our clients. These include treks to see the fascinating Golden Monkeys, which are found in the bamboo forests on the slopes of the Virunga Mountains. They provide an entertaining viewing as they leap from tree to tree and frolic in the open clearings of the forest. Other activities include getting to visit the villages that neighbor the lodge and take part in traditional activities like tree planting, community cleaning and traditional dancing.
