Located on the Southern bank of the Zambezi River in Mana Pools National Park, Ruckomechi is a great camp for those seeking a variety of safaris activities. Guests can safari by vehicle, motorboat, canoe and on foot, enhanced by the presence of some excellent guides and the option for night safari drives. While Mana Pools is a bit out of the way it offers fabulous wildlife especially from July to October. Perfect to combine with areas like Victoria Falls, Hwange, South Luangwa or even the Okavango Delta.
Situated in a large private concession in the heart of the Zambezi Valley’s Mana Pools National Park, Ruckomechi looks out from the banks of the mighty Zambezi River. It is a remote, beautiful place with spectacular views of the broad flowing river, the adjacent woodland and the mountains of the Rift Valley escarpment.
Ten spacious and beautifully decorated en-suite tents, including two family rooms, lie beneath the ana trees, best-beloved of local elephant for their nutritious seeds. The camp's central living space includes an inviting firepit for pleasant evenings beneath the African night skies. Other unique features include a pool which overlooks a broad sweep of river, an outdoor “bath with a view” in a secluded, scenic spot, and a romantic Star Bed by a busy waterhole.
Wildlife is excellent in the area, and Ruckomechi offers diverse game-based activities, including wildlife viewing drives in 4x4 vehicles, boats or canoes, and fishing. Guided nature walks are available with a professional guide. Kudu, zebra, impala and waterbuck can be seen on the surrounding plains, and elephants take advantage of the plentiful albida ana trees in the area. Predators including lions, rare wild dogs, leopards, and cheetahs, are often sighted, and large concentrations of buffalo and hippos can be found along the rivers edge. Bird watching tends to be very good, with the river attracting large numbers of waterfowl.
