We love love love this camp. The conservancy offers some of the best game viewing in the Greater Mara. The guiding is top notch. The camp is exquisite with the sounds, smells and sunrise from bed that make a small tented camp so special, but add things like running water! The camp also is very photography oriented with all guides have excellent skill and offering guests use of some camera equipment.
Mara Plains Camp is a luxury, seven-room camp that is located within the private Olare Motorogi conservancy. The extraordinary location has been the epicenter and hunting grounds for many of the big cats. Hardly a night passes without the exciting sounds of predator activity and lions roaring nearby.
The spacious and comfortable en-suite canvas rooms are built on raised decks with uninterrupted views of the surrounding plains and riverine forest. The design and decor pay homage to the essence of East Africa; Swahili heritage is reflected in large wooden doors from the island of Lamu, and accents of red to honour the great Maasai chiefs and warriors.
Game drives are during the early mornings and late afternoons when the big cats in particular are most active. Your expert guide will introduce you to the abundant bird life, identify trees and local plants, and sharpen your wildlife tracking skills. Game drives in late afternoon / early evening are to savor the African sunset with a refreshing sun-downer drink before continuing to witness the nocturnal animals as they become more active. The Conservancy is a fabulous wildlife reserve of nearly twenty thousand acres, rich in wildlife (including the predators and big cats in particular). It boasts Maras lowest vehicle density, no mini-buses and only one guest room per 700 acres.
