Sand Rivers Camp is an amazing property in Selous National Park. The rooms are very comfortable and have great views. The staff and wildlife guides are a huge part of your stay. This area is excellent for boating and walking with less emphasis on vehicles. Full day game drives into a range of habitats can be very productive.
The site for Sand Rivers in Selous National Park was carefully chosen for its isolation, diversity of game, pristine ecosystems and beautiful landscapes. Sand River has an unusual combination of steep wooded hills, open Miombo woodland and grassy plains, marshes interlaced with lakes, and dry sand rivers. This scenic area boasts an impressive variety of wildlife, bird life and wild flowers as a result of the varied habitats available.
The lodge is comprised of eight secluded cottages, all open fronted with en-suite bathrooms. Five rooms have stunning views over the Rufiji River while three Hillside suites enjoy a refreshing private plunge pool. In addition to a large open bar and dining area, there is also a swimming pool set in the shade of a baobab tree on the banks of the river, in which to cool off in the heat of the day or after a long game drive. The main area has river views throughout.
Sand River Selous also offers a combination of activities including walking, fly camping and fishing for both tiger fish and catfish. Guests enjoy boating down the Rufiji River, past pods of bellowing hippos and sunbathing crocodiles. Relax while enjoying breakfast in the bush, reading in an armchair on the veranda, or lying by the Sand River Selous pool. On all your explorations, you will be led by one of the lodge's superior guides. All of them are exceptional wildlife and bird spotters, know the area and its wildlife back to front and have fascinating stories and tales to tell.
