Located in seasonal Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia, Old Mondoro is a tiny four tented camp offering excellent staff and activities. We love the variety in Lower Zambezi with both day and night safari drives, excellent guided walks, canoe safari and of course some of the best tiger fishing around. Best to go anytime from May to October. This is the sister camp to lovely Chiawa one of our favorites in this park.
Old Mondoro gives visitors an authentic, intimate safari experience that concentrates on the fascinating wildlife and bushlands scenery - all while providing guests with creature comforts and excellent service. With only 8 beds, Old Mondoro is the Lower Zambezi National Park's most intimate and private safari camp, exuding charm and charisma like nowhere else. Overlooking a maze of hippo-inhabited islands from a grove of Acacia trees, this is perhaps the most beautiful site in the park.
Beautifully constructed of canvas and natural materials to preserve the integrity of the safari experience, Old Mondoro has an open and adventurous feel. It provides a perfect retreat after a day filled with excitement in the bush and yet where much of the action will happen right in front of you. At night canvas blinds are rolled down and secured although with the night chorus you are assured of never feeling too cosseted or cut off from the action!
Set in the Lower Zambezi region, the area is known for the most prolific leopard sightings to be had in Africa. There are also large herds of elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, rare wild dogs, eagles, hippos, buffalo and rhinos.
