Maweninga is perched in a gorgeous locale in the heart of Tarangire National Park. Hosted by Masai, the camp exudes charm and local character, while being a tad rough around the edges. The accommodation are simple, comfortable. There are no resident guides at this camp so you will need your own guide.
The camp is located in the north-western area of Tarangire National Park and is built on top of a massive "kopje" (granite rocks) There are amazing views over Lake Burungi and, away to the north, Lake Manyara in the Rift Valley. On a clear day, the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro is visible from the highest point, up among the rocks of this authentic bush camp.
All sixteen tents are built along the kopje, offering an impressive view over the National Park, the lakes and far on the horizon, the rounded slopes of the ancient volcanoes of the Ngorongoro Highlands. Elephants can come to feed in the vicinity of the tents. The whole camp has a distinct “bush feel,” remote, with minimal impact but safe. All the tents are similarly decorated but retain a certain originality, with a terrace, a bedroom and a dressing room alcove with ensuite bathroom: flush toilets, basin and shower (24 hour electricity and hot water).
The main area includes a restaurant in an attractive circular banda, an open structure with a wooden floor and makuti roof. Out of the amazingly sited restaurant frontage, to the right over the rocks, the fireplace is the ideal place for enjoying stunning sunsets over the Rift Valley and the lakes and mountains - followed by memorable evenings relaxing under the stars, accompanied by the Maasai staff. Deck chairs are arranged around the firepit.
