Tumaren Camp is the heart and soul of Karisia Safaris, home to Kerry & James Glenn, who have called this camp home for many years, and it is reflected in their conservation work and dedication to the community. The area boasts the highest diversity of large mammals in Kenya and is also home to several endangered species.
This traditional style tented camp is the base from which to explore the bush by many means. The region’s magnificent scenery is best traversed on foot, accessing where no car will go, and supported by a merry band of camels as our friendly beasts of burden. Knowledgeable guides will reveal their deep understanding and appreciation of the land and its delicate balance – you will learn about the ecology of the pristine landscape, as well as the flora and fauna which thrive here. Each day you will set out after breakfast, and after high tea, for a few hour walk or drive in search of wildlife; along the way you will be looking for eland, steenbuck, giraffe, waterbuck, Grevy's zebra and signs of predators. One of the camp’s greatest assets is the opportunity to interact with communities (including schools, homesteads and markets) as well as local conservation work and general freedom to explore.
The camp is centered around a jovial main area for dining and story-telling. And you’ll lack no comforts in the large walk-in guest tents, each fitted with luxury bedding, dressing gowns, headlamps, solar lights, and a private en suite shower and toilet.
