This is a special and remote area to trek to see families of chimpanzees. Access is remote but worth the trip. This property is a little more rustic that our absolute favorite place, Greystoke Camp.
Beside the peaceful sounds of Mitumba stream lies Gombe Tented Camp with the perfect combination of luxury and preservation in the region. The camp maximizes conservation and low disturbance to the natural environment, yet concurrently excels in service.
Sitting in the Uvivu chairs outside your tent you can view the deep blue waters of Lake Tanganyika with the orange-red sunsets outlining the Congo Mountains and silhouettes of local fishermen setting their lanterns. Tents are comfortable and feature beds with mosquito netting and creature comforts. The dining area is situated a couple of meters from the waters of the Lake Tanganyika, set on a raised wooden deck above ground. Meals at the camp are a sumptuous affair.
Chimpanzee tracking is the main attraction at Gombe, and is always given a high priority. Tracking chimpanzees at Gombe can take from half an hour to about three hours depending on where the chimpanzees are located. Other activities include trekking to Kakombe and Mkenke, two spectacular waterfalls found within Gombe National Park. In the afternoon choose between walking on the beach, swimming, fishing and snorkeling. It is also possible to visit local fishing villages close to the park and get first hand experience of life in a typical African village.
