We recommend all visitors to Etosha stay on the Ongava Concession if they possibly can. It is located on a concession adjacent to the National Park so you can expect a remote wilderness experience with lots of rhino and lion around. You can enter the National Park to explore the water holes as well so you enjoy the best of what Etosha has to offer. Ongava Lodge has the feel of a little larger lodge but the facilities are good. This is the option for travelers with children as they have a great family suite.
Ongava Lodge is situated along the southern boundary of Etosha National Park in the privately owned 30,000 hectare Ongava Game Reserve. It is the ideal place from which to base your activities when visiting Etosha.
Accommodation comprises of 13 brick, rock and thatch chalets and one family room, each with en-suite facilities. Other room amenities include bathrooms with double basins, indoor and outdoor showers, air conditioning and overhead fan, tea/coffee making facilities and a private wooden viewing deck overlooking the reserve. Meals are either served in the main dining area under thatch with a view over the camps busy water hole, or on the dining deck under the stars. The vantage point of the lodge is stunning. Cool off in the refreshing swimming pool, or spend some time in the curio shop, reference library or at the spotting scope for viewing game.
The Reserve is unique in that it is one of the few private game reserves in southern Africa where there is a chance of seeing both black and white rhino. For those who enjoy close wildlife encounters, tracking white rhino on foot with a guide is a highlight not to be missed. Activities at Ongava Lodge revolve around day and night wildlife-viewing drives, visiting hides that overlook waterholes and walks with experienced guides. The camp also includes game drives and daytrips into the easily accessible Okaukuejo area of Etosha National Park. Guests are often rewarded with sightings of lion, elephant, gemsbok, springbok, red hartebeest, and white and black rhino.
