Korkor is a charming eco-lodge in the picturesque Eastern Tigray region of Ethiopia. Situated next to the village of Megab, the Lodge is surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of the Gheralta Mountains. Within close range are many sites of historical, archaeological, cultural and biblical interest.
The Korkor Lodge consists of 12 thatched bungalows that have been designed to mimic the local Tigrinia building style with stone walls and wooden floors. The stone walls have been mined from the surrounding countryside. Each bungalow has a private bathroom and large glass windows to view the tremendous views of the plains and the mountains. The bungalows are surrounded by a large private garden and each has a shaded veranda, perfect for taking in the stunning panoramic views.
There is an on-site restaurant that serves both local and international cuisine. Off-site, guests can visit over 140 churches and archaeological sites in the surrounding area, ranging from historic rock-carved churches to hermitages, shrines and ancient Sabean and Axumite sites. Though they may require a hike to reach, it is well worth it to see both the sites and the incredible views. You will truly be amazed by the feats it took to build these in ancient times.
