Traveling to experience the remote tribal groups of the Omo Valley requires serious cultural sensitivity and we focus only on properties that have close relationships with the local communities. Lumale is expensive and rustic but also idyllic. It is one of the few locales where you can access the remote areas of this valley to visit the market days knowing you are supporting the right kind of tourism in the region.
Lumale camp lies nestled under an ancient ficus grove in a stunning location overlooking a sweeping ox bow bend of the river Omo, within the heart of the unique and remote cultural wonderland of the Omo River basin. The camp offers a once in a lifetime traveling experience where visitors will have a chance to explore cultures untouched by modern life and witness a truly pure cultural experience.
Lumale Camp, though eco-friendly and community friendly, remains intimate and exclusive. It offers a perfect base to explore and discover the wonders of the tribes, traditions and cultures of the Omo River Basin with the genuine thrill of a real African adventure coupled with high standards of style and comfort. The camp is located near to the village of Duss, offering a good starting point for your cultural exploration. The camp accommodates 16 guests. The tents are South African batwing style safari tents, which are comfortable, with each tent having a mini veranda and facilities that include a safari bucket shower and a sitting short drop toilet. The reception area comprises a large sitting area under an awning, beneath a cool spacious tree canopy where the view of the river is superb.
Despite the remote location, the food is wonderful at the camp. Hearty breakfasts start off the day, tasty packed lunches are prepared for wherever the day's adventures may take you, and delicious dinners await back at camp upon return.
