The Mbahe Farm cottages provide an unforgettable African mountain village experience for those seeking cultural enrichment to their adventure in Tanzania. The comfortable cottages mix rustic charm with modern comforts, built with sensitivity to the fragile mountain environment and responsible community development. Guests enjoy the warm hospitality of the local Chagga people, opportunities for a range of activities, and freshly prepared cuisine made from organic produce grown on the farm. The cottages are on the ancestral farm of Simon Mtuy, founder and owner Summit Expeditions & Nomadic Experience.
The sub-village of Mbahe, situated within the larger Marangu Village, is at 6,000 feet (1,830 meters) in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, nestled within the lush tropical forest that envelops the mountain. Accommodation at Mbahe consists of 3 cottages with semi-detached rooms that are simply but tastefully decorated with locally made furniture, comfortable amenities, and a welcoming atmosphere. All rooms have a private en suite bathroom complete with a hot-water shower. The rooms overlook the farm's vegetable & flower garden and the forested Moonjo River below. The outdoor dining area surrounds a large fireplace, with additional cushioned seating in the garden for relaxation. Concerned about environmental sustainability and the future of his village, Simon designed, built, and operates the farm and cottages on universal social and environmental principles.
